The story behind the song
Have you ever had a friendship that just didn't work? Like a puzzle piece from another box, no matter how you turned it round it was just never going to fit? It's not that they weren't worth the effort, or the hard work but simply that it was in their best interests to walk away. This song was born out of that place. Out of watching friends in all their teenage emotional turmoil (it seemed intense at the time) and thinking 'Ya know what? No, I don't want this. I don't want to be your girlfriend. I don't want to start down this road with you because it's never going to work. And I'm not saying that to be a pessimistic cow. I just don't want to waste your time'. And because I am horrible at having conversations with humans, I did what any mature 15 year old would do. I wrote a song about it. Oddly, I found it rather useful when navigating my way through future near misses. Whenever I noticed that I brought out the worst in someone, or they brought out the worst in me, I brought out this song. Nothing says 'undateable' like "Make up your mind for me, you're wasting my time." And that's the story in the song.
